if sorrow

we begin with a deficit

emptied before we are filled

a cold hand never warmed

an old heart never young

if sorrow is how we learn to love

what should we believe

let’s believe in faith

courage to leave the shore

filling our sails with warm sunshined air

if sorrow is how we learn to love

let’s choose to see love

as a start not an end

as a balloon lighter than air

as an anchor without weight

if sorrow is how we learn to love

let’s unlearn sorrow

release and relearn

like unknotting a shoelace and retying it

using the whole length pulled tight and secure

(but not too tight)

And then run.
